Man Shot Dead in SE

There wasn't much Jarvalin Cooper could do for the dying young man whose car had slammed into the front of her Southeast home early Sunday morning.

"I just held his hand and told him help was on the way," Cooper, 35, said Tuesday as she sat on the cement porch of her town house in the 1800 block of Alabama Avenue recounting the incident.

"He was bleeding too much to talk," she said. "All he could tell me was that he was 19 years old. There was too much blood coming out of his mouth."

Washington Metropolitan Police identified the young man as Theodore Durbin, who was actually 18, of the 3700 block of Curtis Avenue in Hillcrest Heights. He had been shot at about 4:15 a.m. as he sat in a parked car near Cooper's house.
