Cropp to announce Sept. 7

"D.C. Council Chairman Linda W. Cropp said yesterday evening that she will officially declare her candidacy for mayor Sept. 7.

In a phone interview, Cropp (D) declined to answer questions about her candidacy, deferring inquiries until next month. Reporters first received word of her intentions in a one-sentence e-mail. She had already given clear signs of her plans, saying last month that 'it looks fairly strong that I would run.'" WP
