Two Shot Dead

"Washington (AP) - D.C. police are investigating a fatal shooting on the playground of Gibbs Elementary School in Northeast.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old Naurice Bland of Bowie was reportedly at the school with some others in 500 block of 19th Street, playing with fireworks Monday night when someone approached him and began firing. Police say Bland was shot several times. Police say the suspect is only described as a black man wearing a mask.

Police have no motive or suspect in the shooting."

"Washington (AP) - Police in the District are investigating the 89th homicide of the year.

Sergeant Joe Gentile says they were called to the 2,900 block of Eighth Street in Southeast overnight for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived they found 26-year-old Walter David Perry of Southeast with a gun shot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Howard University Hospital.

Gentile says they have no motive or suspect in the shooting.

This time last year, 93 people had been killed in the District. Gentile says they're still down four percent for homicides overall this year."
