Evans Under Investigation

"City regulators are looking at whether
Councilman Jack Evans violated campaign finance rules by spending money from his political fund on members of his Ward 2
constituency.

Evans' political action committee reported to D.C.'s campaign finance office that it spent more than $12,000 on constituent meals and entertainment. That could violate regulations, which say PAC money can only be spent on political candidates and the issues and parties they support. Constituents services are supposed to be paid for with a separate fund that council members can set up.

Auditors have been looking at the Evans PAC since last month, when the mayoral candidate came under fire for controlling how its funds are spent. The Washington Post reports that Evans has used the PAC to reimburse himself thousands of dollars since starting it in 1983. Auditors are determining whether those reimbursements were proper."
